Fly Control Introduction
Sgt. Poopers provides all-natural, non-toxic fly control in backyards throughout the greater Dallas area. Flies hang around a source of food (like dog waste) their entire lifespan—about 75 days. To get rid of them, the first step is to remove any dog waste in the yard as that removes a primary food source. Of course, existing flies in the neighborhood may still be a problem. The solution is our all-natural blend of essential oils. Once a week, we spray it on foliage, porch or patio to repel them naturally.
Our essential oil blend is entirely non-toxic to humans, pets, lizards, and beneficial insects like butterflies, honeybees and ladybugs. An average-sized yard is just $14.95 a week, but can be lower ($9.95) depending on circumstances. Higher frequency spraying costs less per visit.
Preventing Disease
Dog poop, garbage, dead animals, sewage, rotting food—this is what house flies are born in and what they eat all day long. Their bodies are essentially teaming with live pathogenic bacteria—twice as much as a cockroach. So it's no wonder they're the perfect home-delivery transport for germs.
The average house fly carries twice as many bacteria than a cockroach. Each time it lights on a surface, it simultaneously does three things: (1) sheds thousands of bacteria, (2) vomits on the surface (to let stomach acids dissolve solids), and (3) it defecates. It is to their advantage to spread as much infection as possible since they need dead or decaying matter in which to lay their next generation of eggs.
Transmitting Germs
When flies groom themselves by rubbing their hairy germ-encrusted legs together or rubbing them over their wings, they are showering the area with thousands of live pathogens. If you get sick or even die thanks to those germs, hurray for the fly because its next batch of offspring will have an absolute bonanza. The point is, flies have a vested interest in spreading disease. Their larvae can't eat you unless you're dead. So from the fly's viewpoint, you need to die and soon.
Flies transmit more than 65 diseases to humans including respiratory infections, food poisoning, dysentery, tapeworm, giardiasis, Shigellosis, Salmonellosis, E.coli, typhoid fever, cholera, tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, anthrax, tularemia, and even leprosy.
Walking on Sunshine
House flies taste food through their feet. That's why they walk around after they land on your sandwich.
They can neither bite nor chew so cannot eat solid foods. In fact, a house fly's "mouth" consist of two sponges connected to a straw that they daub into liquids to soak them up.
Flies have a special method for solid foods. When flies light on solid food they vomit onto the surface to allow their stomach acids to dissolve and liquefy the surface so they can return in a moment to slurp up the mess. Some of it anyway. Now you know why flies are always so confoundingly persistent about trying to circle back to the same spot even after you shoo them away. Every notice that?
When they land on your sandwich, they barf up their last meal of dog feces and garbage. By shooing them away you're forcing them to forgo not only a potential meal, but the meal they had before that. So they'll try to come right back to the same spot.
Of course when a fly disgorges onto your potato salad they're also depositing a cornucopia of pathogens that will never be recovered.
Leaving Their Mark
We saved the best for last.
Since flies eat continuously, they have to defecate continuously—nearly every time they land. So now you know all the fly's delivery methods for germ home delivery.
- Walking on food, utensils, plates, cooking surfaces with bacteria laden feet
- Sewing thousands of germs onto fertile surfaces by constantly "grooming" themselves — it's not grooming!
- Vomiting live pathogens and stomach acid onto your food and surfaces
- Defecating onto your food at the same time they are vomiting—they got both ends in the game and all six feet, too.
That's what makes the house fly the world's #1 transmitter of disease. So if a fly lands on your food, cut off that portion and don't eat it.
Dining on Filth
Flies are homebodies and rarely travel more than a few blocks in their lifetime as long as food is available. Flies need filth, waste, and decomposing carcasses. That means out in the wilderness, you'll rarely even find a fly unless you brought it along with you. Instead, all the flies are back in the cities, towns and wherever people and domesticated animals live. Humans are enablers because, not cognizant of the consequences, we are careless and messy with waste products. We keep dogs and ignore the above-ground sewage in our backyards. We throw garbage into unsealed containers granting flies easy access. Flies are synanthropic creatures, which means they depend on us to provide the things they need to thrive.
Fresh dog waste is the fly's number one go-to for dinner. Not only will they spend hours sponging up fluids, but each female fly will lay their eggs there.
Next to dog waste, the fly's second favorite dining spot is the garbage and recycling can or dumpster. It's all good to the insect who's entire life cycle is fueled by filth.

Preventing flies from Being Born
Sgt. Poopers can help defend you and your family from disease spread by flies.
First is to clean up any dog waste since this is where flies are born. Flies smell fresh dog poop and light on it almost immediately to eat and lay about 150 eggs. The eggs hatch just 12 to 24 hours later. Larvae begin to eat.
After gorging on dog waste for three to five days, they squirm away to pupate. This final transformation to full-grown house flies only takes about six days in warm weather, but they leave the poop mound to do that.
This is why dog waste would ideally be picked up daily or at least performed as frequently as possible since the best way to prevent flies is to prevent them from being born.
To double down on fly control, we spray the area where the dog waste was with 100%-natural, non-toxic cedar oil. This cedar oil kills flies on contact and will repel them from the area. So no more eggs.
