Sgt. Poopers® Chartered Conservationist badgeIf, for any reason you are not 100% thrilled with our service, just let us know. We’ll be right out to fix it, or your cleaning will be free. Honestly, we take great pains to make our service not just thorough, but perfect. It's rare any of our clients finds something amiss because our standard is perfection and our highest priority is making sure you are thrilled with our service.

We are dog owners too and we use our own service. We learned years ago that if even one pile is missed, it destroys all confidence in the job. When it comes to yard cleaning, we believe it is possible to do the job perfectly every time. What we do is not rocket science. It takes some patience and integrity. It takes sharp eyes. It takes knowing what to look for. And it takes a determination to get it right in every single yard. Perfection is our promise and perfection is what we intend to deliver.

However, we do have a strict “no return” policy: Once we clean your yard, we cannot return the waste. Your dogs will just have to make more.

Sgt. Poopers® Conservation ArrowheadFinally, there are a few exceptions. We guarantee to clean every yard perfectly, but that guarantee presumes a yard that receives at least minimal lawn care.

EXTREMELY TALL OR UNMOWED GRASS, WEEDS OR GROUND COVER:  We depend on our eyes to find waste, but extremely tall grass will blind us. Though rare, tall grass may also hide a venomous snake (there are 7 species of rattlesnakes, plus copperheads, coral snakes and water moccasins in Texas), or another danger like a hole, or board with a sharp nail sticking out of it. In these kinds of situations we will do our best, but we can't guarantee to remove everything if we can't even see what is there.

PILES OF LEAVES or DEBRIS: Did you know Dallas is more windy than Chicago? The wind blows leaves into piles every autumn. During this time we do our best and try to sort through the leaves as best we can, but it's impossible to guarantee perfection since for the low prices we charge we can't turn over every leaf.

DEEP STICKY MUD: When it rains we don waterproof boots and galoshes so deep puddles of water are usually no problem. Wet compact dirt is also usually no problem as it doesn't cling. However we cannot allow our boots to become caked with sticky mud because we are loath to leave a trail of great muddy boot prints on your (or our next client's) driveway, lawn, or sidewalk. In these conditions, we sometimes have to temporarily avoid an area of deep sticky mud to prevent our boots from becoming caked with muck. Sgt. Poopers® Disinfection and Deodorizing buttonWe just have to do the best we can.

AGGRESSIVE DOGS: We don't want to risk getting bit, so if you have a dog in a pen that seems like it might bite, we may have to avoid going in there temporarily. Some dogs bark aggressively, but they are really sweet. Usually we can figure out who's who by seeing how they respond to the offering of a treat. A sweet dog will lick his lips. An aggressive dog will ignore the treat altogether.

DNA Testing Reveals Threat

fingerprintNot until the mid 1990s was the full environmental impact of dog waste fully identified or appreciated. Thanks to the breakthrough of DNA testing, Scientists were able to match waterborne bacteria and germs to specific animal sources, including humans and pets. Due to the high popularity of keeping dogs as pets in urban areas, this forensic process revealed that dog waste was a significant contributor of harmful bacteria in creeks, rivers, lakes and bays throughout the United States. In some areas of the country, dog waste was identified as the leading cause of water pollution.

Why flood waters are toxic

Wherever flood waters occur, authorities urge residents not to drink the water. This is because toxic bacteria from flooded sewer systems, plus solid waste from thousands of dogs are washed by rainwater directly into storm drains which flow untreated into local creeks, streams, rivers, and lakes. In this regard, dog waste is classified as "non-source point" pollution no different from human sewage contaminating flood waters.

Ecological Case Study

river

In Virginia, the Lynnhaven River had been closed to oyster and clam harvesting since the 1930s due to pollution. Using DNA testing, scientists were shocked to discover up to one fourth of the fecal coliform bacteria in the polluted river was from pet waste. In response, a local grass-roots campaign was mounted to raise awareness on the importance of picking up dog waste before it was washed it into storm drains.

As a result, the river was found to be clean enough that some 1,450 acres were reopened by the state health department for oyster and clam harvesting. In addition to cleaner waterways, the increased responsibility on the part of homeowners picking up after their dogs resulted in a drastic decrease in fly population—another vehicle for the spread of disease!
